Unleashing Our Communities' Potential
2023 Impact Report
About Us
Transforming Obstacles into Opportunities
Since 1953, The Child Center of NY has grown from a single counseling center to a network of 100 programs. Our services now span six divisions and range from mental health to education to direct cash investment. Since people and problems do not exist in isolation, we care for the whole person, the entire family, and the larger community.
The Child Center is also a catalyst for change. In addition to direct service, we research, pilot, test, and pursue innovative long-term solutions to entrenched social challenges. These efforts, together with client feedback, have led to reframing our work into four initiatives to disrupt the trajectory of generational poverty.
A healthy family is the foundation on which fulfilling lives are built.
Obstacle
Physical and mental health care needs can’t be met if obstructions like food insecurity or a lack of providers who speak your language or accept Medicaid are in the way.
Opportunity
We partner with communities to ensure comprehensive and accessible care is part of the fabric of community life.
A high school diploma leads from poverty to possibilities.
Obstacle
Living in poverty negatively affects students’ ability to succeed in school.
Opportunity
Support the whole child and family, and provide avenues for youth to engage in school and learning—from infancy to adulthood.

When you give people the resources and support to reach their potential, they usually do it.
Obstacle
Systemic roadblocks prevent economic mobility: Once a person is in poverty, the resources and support to get out of it are often out of reach.
Opportunity
Remove the roadblocks and offer resources and support so people can change their own lives, on their terms, and start a new cycle of opportunity and promise for their children.
